Network Radio is a VoIP system which uses Zello, Teamspeak 3 (TS3) or Echolink and allows radio users to TX/RX around the World for free via 3G, 4G or Wifi using a Network Radio Transceiver, Mobile Phone, Tablet or a Computer.  At the Folkestone Repeater Group meeting on 6 June 2018, an excellent presentation was given by Matt M1CMN which created lots of interest and a number of members have since purchased a Network Radio, others are using Zello on their mobile phones.

Some Early Network Radios

Some early network radios are shown above – Inrico T320, Inrico TM7 and Radio Tone RT4 – Moonraker a good selection of Network Radios.

There are many different talkgroups (channels) within the network that allow users full RX/TX capabilities across different radio networks and systems from around the world.

The system also allows users to create private talkgroups for point to point or private group QSO’s. One such group has been created for Folkestone Repeater Group, this is accessed using the free Zello app which is a push-to-talk app for mobile devices (Android and IOS) and PC’s.

Network Radios” and “Folkestone Repeater Group” are channels for Radio Amateurs and other radio enthusiasts interested in network radios.

There are people locally listening to the Folkestone Repeater Group channel, so please feel free to give out a call.

APRS can be used on Network Radios by downloading APRSdroid from the Play Store for which there is a small charge.  APRSdroid is an Android application for Amateur Radio operators, it allows reporting your position to the APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) network, displaying of nearby amateur radio stations and the exchange of APRS messages.  If you wish to track APRS positions visit aprs.fi
