Another Radio I hear you say! yes it is!

Here is a review of the TidRadio TD-H8 which I purchased before I went on holiday to Wells last week. 

This radio has the bonus of programming via an app and Bluetooth. It finds the current location from your phone and displays repeaters in the area. From there, you can program via bluetooth quickly and use the repeaters. The app also allows you to share configuration files with other users / friends.

I gave this a go, and found 2 local repeaters close to where I was. GB7WR on 2m and GB3FI on 70cms

GB3FI was installed to support users of hand-portable equipment that may choose to walk on the many areas of outstanding natural beauty in the area. Including the Mendip Hills, the Somerset Levels, the Quantock hills to name just a few. This repeater provides patchy but useable coverage throughout the Cheddar Gorge and as such proves a valuable resource for Raynet when they support charity walks in this area

I immediately got a reply on this repeater from someone on Allstar. It was a fairly good signal with me, and I got a good audio report. I had set the audio higher in the menu than the defaults.

Please note to turn off the Roger Bleep in the menu which seemed to transmit as a data burst at the end of transmission.

The power output of this handheld is 10w, not bad, I measured 9.5w.

It works well out of band, and on the broadcast FM Band for RX.

If you are out of the area a lot, this is a good radio for programming quickly.

It comes with a drop in charger with USB C.

Menu's are easy to navigate.
